A few very good friends of mine have released new music from each of their respective bands – Contronyms and Ledge.
Contronyms consists of my buddies Tom Connolly, Dave Baczewski and Dan Synnestvedt. They recorded their EP Hold Up late last year and just released 2 songs off of it. You can check out their SoundCloud below:
My other buddy John Hoffman just released a full length album with his new project called Ledge. John is the former frontman for DeKalb powerviolence band, Weekend Nachos. Ledge swaps out Weekend Nachos’ hardcore sound for a more sludge metal, doom vibe. Pretty brutal stuff. You can check out the album, Cold Hard Concrete on Bandcamp below:
Brand New unexpectedly dropped their first new album in 8 years entitled Science Fiction last Thursday. Vinyl pre-orders for the album mysteriously appeared via Instagram early last Tuesday. The first 500 people to pre-order the album on vinyl were overnighted a copy on a 61 minute single-track CD-R. Redditors immediately blew up the Brand New subreddit with track names and artwork they had stumbled upon by using the app Shazam. There’s been a lot of speculation that this will be the band’s last album. If so, it’s a perfect ending.
You can buy the new album on the Procrastinate! Music Traitors site here.
You can also stream the album on Spotify and Apple Music.
Trent Reznor and company played their first show in 3 years on Wednesday in Bakersfield, CA. During their set they covered Bowie’s Blackstar track “I Can’t Give Everything Away”. Check it out below:
Trent Reznor’s remix actually showed up on a random Soundcloud account back in January. You can listen to it here:
If you live in Chicago, you may have seen billboards that simply advertise “4:44”. The signs allegedly have ties to Tidal (the streaming service owned by Jay-Z). Forums such as Reddit’s HipHopHeads are speculating a new project from Hov is on its way.
There’s a billboard off the expressway that can be seen at Harrison and Halsted.
